METAL DISTRACTION Zine interview with LIQUID FLESH (France)

LIQUID FLESH From Grenoble, France. Now as a trio with : Gastric Luke - Guitars, Putrid Bruce - Vocals / Bass and Glaviar - Drums. They melted down    ''Spontaneous  Liquefaction''  Full-length  2016  and the  music  of  LIQUID FLESH is now more sophisticated and more radical, characterized by a relentless energy but still driven by an old school horror/sci-fi vibe via ''Chair Liquide'' Full-length, melted out September 18, 2020 with 8 songs of melting death metal.
LIQUID FLESH. Although the name is somehow ugly and the second cover artwork "Chair Liquide" they may hint that they do not consider themselves too extreme because the music here is a direct object that cannot be disputed, pure morbid death metal. My guess is a bit wrong because at first I thought they were a regular thrash or hardcore band if observed on the front cover. So "Chair Liquide" is an album that almost succeeded in highlighting their melting concept, because at least it has nice songs and a decent old school feel.  It is not perfect that a diseased group like LIQUID FLESH not release something 'retro' like this.  The greatly enhanced influence has entered the initial style of CELTIC FROST "Into the crypt of ray" very significantly in first or second track. But the last few songs such as "Pluie Acide" and "Morbide Divination" describe a little old CARCASS from its speed and deep gore.
Marches the listener into battle with an onslaught of morbid riffs and  rolls on through with some real headbanging thrash. Putrid Bruce's vocals sound more  varied  and  deranged  here  and  he  pulls  out  some  bloodcurdling screams compare to their ''Spontaneous Liquefaction'' album founded more on brutal growl But not significant because both they have their advantages.

     How's life there?

Everything is fine, thank you ! Our album will be out very soon and we are looking forward to playing it live despite some of our next shows being cancelled.

Tell us some of LIQUID FLESH history and your latest line up please?

Liquid Flesh is a trio of death metal, from Grenoble (close to the french Alps). The band started in 2014 with active members of the Grenoble metal scene (the ex singer is in Nocturnal Depression for example) as a brainless death metal band, the main goal was then to compose our songs as simple as possible, to still be able to play them after many beers during shows. We recorded a first album “Spontaneous Liquefaction” in 2016, did some shows then went on hold. 2 years later the guitarist Gastric Luke and drummer Glaviar re-animated the band with Putrid Bruce of Epitaphe on bass / vocals. We recorded new songs during 2019 that are compiled in this new album, “Chair Liquide”.

You’re just about to release the new album, "Chair Liquide". Are you excited for it?

Yes we are ! More than that, we are very excited to play it live. Unfortunately a lot of live shows we planned for the release are for the moment rescheduled or cancelled.

With regard to new album recording, I think a lot of changes have been made differently from before in terms of sound, vocals and manner?  What is your comment?

The recording of  the  new  album  has  not  been made very differently than before. We usually compose around some member’s ideas  and  jam  around,  until we  get the song as perfect as possible. And as the  first  album, the album was recorded, mixed and mastered by our guitarist, Gastric Luke.

Some of the musical ideas expressed in this album are a little outside the ‘norm’ of the genre. What  would  you say  were your main influences when writing the music?

I don’t get which ideas could be outside of the norms. It’s death metal, so there’s a lot of dissonant riffings,  crushing  grooves and harsh and low vocals.  We  are  not  just inspired  by death metal bands (which are for example AUTOPSY, DEATH STRIKE, Early CARCASS…) but by extreme metal in general, rock or punk music.

What do you want to highlight as 'Melting Death Metal'?

It’s not about inventing a new subgenre of metal. We just want to highlight that the death metal we compose and want to play has to be in its core “liquid” and dripping. There are a lot of different ways to do it - just in death metal when you hear for example AUTOPSY, MORBID ANGEL or INCANTATION you can feel this atmosphere differently. It is also because we are mainly (but less now) inspired by the melt movies, a subgenre of B-movies with films like Street Trash, The Blob...

Which bands do you like the most at the moment and peoples should listen to?

Putrid Bruce: I’m a lot at the moment into a new compilation we are producing with our musical collective “Eptagon”. It is not out yet, but i’m encouraging people to listen to the previous one: https://collectifeptagon.bandcamp.com/album/sampler-2019

Gastric Luke: These days I’m a lot into american death metal bands like SANGUISUGABOGG, MALIGNANT ALTAR, MORTUOUS or FETID, labels like Maggot Stomp or 20 Buck Spin got a lot of great stuff like that on their catalogue!

Glaviar : Hard to choose! I listen to a lot of fast things like HATE ETERNAL, CRYPTOPSY or NILE but I spend a lot of time listening to "Strapping Young Lad" and the universe of Devin Townsend.

What were some of your favorite gigs? Who was the most memorable bands you played with?

The favorite will be the next one. We are doing our release show in Bordeaux, our label’s city in a nasty venue. It should be fun.

The most memorable bands we played with are without a doubt AGRESSOR and SUBLIME CADAVERIC DECOMPOSITION. They are legends.

What have been some of the proudest moments in your career so far?

Playing with the line up we mentioned above i guess.

That's it! Thanks and really appreciated your time with us. Please give some final comments before it all ends?

Even if you wear a mask, don’t forget to wash your teeth.
