Review on GHASTLY OF GILL (Pg.MALAYSIA)

GHASTLY OF GILL - It doesn't feel like a new band, they have been based in Penang since 2000 by the original line-up : Arel (vocals), Fuad (guitars), Zaini (guitars), Mat (bass) and Jun (drums). They have released 2 promo songs before with a melodic black /death metal concept. Then the band migrated to Shah Alam in 2011 with a few members changed : Jepp/Nik Anif (vocals), Fuad (guitars), Menn (guitars), Essay / Along (bass), Fred (keyboard) & Aizad (drums). Successfully produced the 1st EP “Damnation Of Eternity” with this line-up through the RDL records in 2011. The EP contains 6 tracks still in the melodic black/death metal genre. The sound is pretty damn cool, it is slugging between EMPEROR's styles I thought.
However, their blazing journey faded a few years later. But the flames of rage have yet to be completely extinguished, there is still a remnant of the spirit that burned it back in 2018, focusing on the full debut album, which is still in the carpentry stage at the moment.  Then, back to the homeland 2020, There are some changes in the lineup again: Mkaz (Vocals), Fuad (Guitar), Wan Ablasa (Bass) & Awer (Drum).  Conceptual changes also occur along with monsoon changes where they also highlight the method of death metal (old school) being finalized.  In the meantime, they had the opportunity to present 3 new songs to us as an EP under the auspices of Goatlordth records. The riffing might not be complex, but it is delivered with some fancy through the mix, primitive sounds doesn't here. It was scratches from the base of clean thrash sounding with harsh death metal vocals, Mkaz got harsh throat torture voices ala Van Drunen. But they still do give some archaic dead stench, most to the fans of ASPHYX will no doubt eat this up! Additionally, it left no doubt that the new configuration of GHASTLY OF GILL need some force to be reckoned with and to conclude that more necessarily requires more ingredients from them, I am sure they can serve us more than that in the new effort!
