ROTTEN CASKET

ROTTEN CASKET
"First Nail in the Casket" EP 2022,
Supreme Chaos Records

ROTTEN CASKET is back on track again featuring two members from the mighty ASPHYX, Martin van Drunen (Throat torture/Vocals) and Stefan "Husky" Hüskens (Drums), Yorck Segatz from legendary SODOM shredding (HM2/guitars), Patrick van der Beek from DISABUSE on (Bass) and the remaining original member Frank Bergesson on (guitars).
Chances are the title of this review will sound a tad exaggerated. '‘First Nail In The Casket'’, a record so disgustingly rough and raw it sounds like death metal gone through a disastrous abortion. Forging elements of crust, and thrash metal in the maelstrom of their uncluttered, simply mid-tempo death metal. ROTTEN CASKET expands on a classic sound without deviating from their initial strengths. The album benefits greatly from its production job. Unlike most modern productions, it is not super-compressed and sterile. Instead, it is smothered in a darkly textured atmosphere, generating an aural palate of gray smoke and smoldering wreckage. Martin van Drunen given that he is over 30 years into his career and at least can maintain this level of output, his rasp as harsh and raw as ever yet fans also easily understood it simply between ASPHYX and HAIL OF BULLETS.
ROTTEN CASKET manages to be relentlessly aggressive and atmospheric at the same time, without decaying in melodic death metal. The most is an ingredient of Swedish flavor… Obviously, the guitar is totally rotten, thick sound with hm2 effect…not very original (but who cares!) (except for that great tone, of course), but still damn good!
This diversity of sound prevents the album from becoming stale or excessive. Naturally, their songwriting designs show intermediate skills in creating and manipulating riffs, tempos and moods to create songs that are not very noticeable but still compelling.
